Top 7 Reads of 2017
Happy New Year book geeks and freaks! I started this blog in 2017 and I am so grateful for all the support and engagement I've had from everyone, so thank you for taking the time to read my reviews and posts! 2018 is going to be great!
I've decided to do a Top 7 Reads of 2017! I'm keeping to 7 so that I can highlight some top reads I really, truly, enjoyed! I read a lot of amazing books this year, so this was tough, but without further ado, here they are! (and in no particular order...)
1. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
I know this one may seem a little cliche because it seems like everyone has been obsessing over this series. But- OH. MY. GOODNESS. This book is worth the hype for me. It was an amazing read, lots of twists and turns, and characters that you can't help but love. I'm really happy I read this series, and this book in particular will give you all the feels.
2. Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
How had I never read anything by Laini Taylor before?!?! I loved this book so much that without a doubt I will be reading her other books in 2018, and I look forward to the sequel for Strange the Dreamer! The writing in this book is magnificent and I honestly think I would enjoy a grocery list written by Laini Taylor. If you haven't picked up a copy of this, please do! Personally I now have multiple, included a signed copy that is one of my prized possessions!
3. Caraval by Stephanie Garber
If you're looking for a read that is whimsical with a bit of mystery, then this is a book you will certainly enjoy. I read Caraval in a day and a half because I simply couldn't put it down. There's a sequel, but I also like that the author ended it in a way that isn't going to cause me to lose my mind as I wait for the next book.
4. The Star Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi
This was a romantic, adventurous read with a really vivid, magical world. I enjoyed how the story developed, and picked up and read the sequel, A Crown of Wishes this year as well. Roshani Chokshi does a great job at setting up the story and this was another read that I struggled to put down.
5. Wintersong by S Jae Jones
This book has lead to one of my most anticipated books of 2018- Shadowsong, its sequel. I really liked how this book didn't have a typical ending, and the vibe was really mysterious- if that makes sense! You'll just have to read it to find out more...
6. Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
I loved the mystery, badass female lead, and the witty banter between the two main characters! The story is dark, given the murders that are going on, but Kerri Maniscalco does an amazing job at balancing the story out, and the plot is really intriguing. The author also engages a lot with her readers which I really appreciate, and likes fan posts and tweets whenever she has the time.
7. Frostblood by Elly Black
I have heard mixed reviews about this book at times but honestly I loved it. It was a quick read, and the author is Canadian, which is a bonus! I liked the main character, and found her struggles to be relatable- in the sense that I probably would have made similar choices in the situations she finds herself. The next book, Fireblood, is on my to-be-read list for 2018 and is waiting for me to pick it up from my bookshelf!
